Law Society accredited lawyers
Less than 1% of UK lawyers are accredited by the Law Society as specialists entitled to carry out publicly funded work using the legal aid scheme. Limitation Act 1980
Claims for compensation for personal injury must be settled or legal proceedings must have been issued in a court of law within three years of discovery of the injury failing which the potential claim may become statute barred under The Limitation Act 1980 and the opportunity to claim compensation may have been lost forever. This general rule does not apply to those under the age of 18 years for whom time only starts running on the eighteenth birthday. Time may never start running for those suffering from mental disability. There are certain other exceptions to the general rule and the court does have a rarely exercised but wide discretion relating to limitation matters. Limitation law is complex and if necessary advice should be taken from a qualified medical negligence solicitor as soon as possible.
